It’s been no easy feat, because there were so many great
stories and moments, it’s hard to cram it all into just 8 hours of TV.
Suffice to say, that we know we have a great series here, thanks to your
collective involvement and openness to the process. So again – thanks.

The premiere date of the first episode is Wednesday, January 21st @ 8pm.

Also, wanted to let you know that the CBC’s website www.cbc.ca/thewomenwent
for the series will be going online on December 19th. The site has
different components for viewers to get a little ‘deeper’ into the stories
and episodes and was wildly popular last season. If you have any concerns
about content on the site, please contact US (Paperny Films) directly and we
’ll pass the info onto the CBC and help you deal with it. Contact Ed Hatton
(Series Producer) directly at 604-708-5749 ext 101 or twtww@papernyfilms.com

And as always, as we get into this thing on the air, please feel free to
contact Ed or myself directly about anything – you can get me at:
bradb@boxingcats.ca or bradbrough@gmail.com

The show is looking great – you’ll be proud of your town.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year
Speak Soon.

Brad Brough, and the TWTWW Team

Homesick for Tatamagouche

Brad Brough Blog #3
September 29, 2008

Hi, Brad Brough here.

So, it’s been a couple of weeks since we all left your town and gave it back to you!
Just wanted to touch base with you all and let you know what we’re up to.

First of all, I just wanted to personally thank everyone in Tata for your warm support and hospitality to our crew. When we all hopped on planes to go home, we all felt a connection to the town that we didn’t expect. I think this comes with the level of mutual respect that we all showed for each other. It was an incredible honour for all of us to be able to experience your town for the short period of time that we did and be welcomed into your homes and your lives. It takes a lot of guts and trust to do this and we appreciate it.

For the next 4 months our post production team will be combing through hundreds of hours of footage to cobble together 8 episodes of ‘The Week the Women Went’, to begin airing late in January on CBC network. It’s a huge, huge task and an incredibly challenging one. The idea of trying to capture the essence of a place in just one week is a tough one, but a challenge we’ve taken on with gusto. I’ll be supervising the edits along with Ed and Peter out in Vancouver, so I’ll keep in touch in the months to come and let you know what’s happening.

As the airdates get closer, we’ll be in touch more.
Please feel free to drop me an email at anytime, I will get back to you promptly.
My personal email address is:
bradb@boxingcats.ca

If you have other concerns, please feel free to contact the series producer, Ed at
twtww2@papernyfilms.com

Thanks again for a once in a lifetime experience, we on the production team wish you all a warm and safe winter with your families (no more hurricanes!).

Happy Oktoberfet, no one will be drinking of course….right.
Very Best

Brad Brough
Series Director
The Week the Women Went

Happy trails...

...Bon Voyage, ladies.

We survived the hurricane, and now the week is in gear.

Guys, if you want to take part in the community project, please go down to the site. We want to share some info with you, and also hear what you have to say about your expectations for the week.

On Tuesday Sept. 2nd, there will be a women's only meeting, followed by a men's only meeting, at the Tatamagouche Legion. The women's meeting will be at 6:30, for about an hour. The men's will be at 8:30. With the women, we'll be sharing a little bit of information about the trip (but not where you're going!), and opening up the floor to your questions. For the men, we'll be checking in on how the progress is going on the community project.

We're asking the women who are joining us on the trip to fill out a survey about what they would want out of a dream vacation. We're getting these to you in a number of ways. We'll be emailing it to you, if you have an email address. Tomorrow, there will be a link to the survey on the website. We'll also have them at the drugstore, so that you can pick up a copy and fax it back to us. Our fax number is 1 416 205 2945. We’re all locked up inside the CBC building in downtown T.O. trying to figure out how to make this show! The good part is that we’re within 2 blocks of Toronto Blue Jay games, the lake and hundreds of overpriced restaurants.

Planning this production is a huge job. In September we’ll be bringing upwards of 70 people to Tata to make this show, so coordinating all of that is craziness.

About half of us will be arriving toward the last week of August, and the rest of the first week of September. We’ll be staying in various motels, B&B’s and cottages around Tata and want to put together an informal event on Friday, September 5 where you’ll have a chance to hang out with our crew. We were thinking maybe a ‘washer toss’ tournament, with BBQs and beer? Suggestions?

Looking forward to coming back. Think of us in the smog of Toronto on those nice east coast summer days.

Brad Brough – Director,
& The Production Team

Brad Brough Blog #1

Hi, I’m Brad Brough and I’m the Series Director and Creative Producer of the 2nd Season of ‘The Week the Women Went’. In case I didn’t get to see you on our recent trip to Tata, I wanted to just drop you all a note to answer a few questions that you may have about what we’re doing with this TV series Feel free to drop any questions you may have on this blog and we’ll do our best to answer them!

‘So, what exactly is this show all about’?
Well, it’s a reality show, yes – but it’s really more of a documentary series about your town. At the very basic level, it’s quite simple: the women of a town leave, and we see how the men cope. Fun,fun…

To the Women:
It’s a chance to remove yourself (if only for a week) from your daily lives. A chance to relax, have fun, enjoy your friends, a good meal while leaving all responsibilities behind. It’s also a chance to reflect on your lives, your choices and your families. Go ahead, enjoy yourselves, put yourself first for once, and sleep in until noon if you want! Your husbands/partners are in charge now, so relax…what could possibly go wrong?

To the men:
Yes, it’s life without women for just a week, but really, we want you to imagine life without women forever. Life without your wives, your mothers, your lovers, your friends. Life at home alone except for your children (and your pets!). A town that has to run without women, homes that have to function without women, children that have to survive without women! It’s all about life, love and the appreciation for your better half.

‘Why Tatamagouche’?
In a word - the people. Yes, it’s nice to see the ocean and Northern Nova Scotia, but that’s not what it’s about. We chose Tata because you have an interesting, diverse community and because you were so enthusiastic about jumping into this with us. Your cooperation and passion for the project and the process made us unable to resist. You’ve overwhelmingly welcomed us into your community and your lives – and that means a lot. We could not make this series without you - so that’s why we’re coming back!

‘Who will be in the show’?
It’s hard to say - we’ve met some people on our past two trips, and we’re looking forward to meeting more over the next 3 weeks before we come out to shoot. Invariably if you’re on the bus you’ll be in the show, and if you’re staying in town (and you’re a man!) and you’re involved in the town on a daily basis, you’ll be in the show. We are selecting some families to focus on based on dynamics and stories that we think will translate well into the premise of the show, but by no means does this mean that if haven’t spoken to you or met you that you will not be in the show. Engage in the process with us – the more the merrier!

‘Why should I get involved?’
Well, first off – you don’t have to. We’re not taking over your town, and everyone’s not going. Some people don’t want to go, others can’t and others provide essential services and feel compelled to stay (some teachers, hospital and nursing home staff etc.) But for those who can be involved, we’d love you to. Here’s why - This is an opportunity to represent your town in a prideful way to millions of Canadians. This a prime-time CBC TV series that had over 1 million viewers for most episodes last year, so it’s a chance to promote your town to the entire country. Tata does rely on tourism in a big way, and we are confident that this exposure will benefit the town in a very tangible way in the years ahead - it’s exposure to build on. And notwithstanding all of that, it’s also an opportunity to show the country the way your community operates and cooperates in a really unique way. If you’d like your voice heard - this is the way to do it!

Don’t hesitate to ask questions on this blog, and check back for updates on what we’re up to!

-Brad
